Should You Plaster Over Artex?

Artex ceilings were extremely popular in homes across the UK during the 1970s and 1980s. Today, many homeowners prefer a smooth, modern finish and ask whether existing artex can simply be plastered over.

In many cases, the answer is yes. If the artex is sound and securely bonded to the ceiling, it can often be prepared and skimmed to create a fresh, contemporary appearance.

Older artex ceilings may require additional consideration, particularly if there are concerns about the age and condition of the existing material.
